This site contains current and past news articles from real newspapers that have been modified for readers of different ages and levels. I will recommend articles that align with our science and social studies topics of studies. It would be great to read one article a week with your student as part of their nightly reading (reading log) homework. Some of these articles can be challenging to understand so please read them with your studnet.

ReadWorks

I will assign articles for students to read on this site based on content and/or skills and strategies. The site will read articles aloud to students. The best way to use this resource is to have the article read aloud to students first, then discuss and reread the article with your student, finally discuss and answer the questions with your student. Even strong readers need to follow the steps of discussion and have suppot in answering the questions. This will greatly aid them in comprehension ability. We will use this resource regularly for independent and whole class practice in school. Please try to read at least one additional article a week with your student at home.
